The Fabrics:

Tuffies Dog Beds are not the cheapest and there is a reason for that. The most popular waterproof fabric used in Tuffies beds is the Durasoft. This is a 1000 denier ballistic Nylon and Tuffies commission a special coater to apply a heavy duty polyurethane coating to this fabric for waterproofing. This means that the beds are exceptionally hard wearing even when a dog digs his bed and the waterproofing lasts for a full dog-life (and longer). Thanks to the quality, this fabric still feels like a nice upholstery fabric, yet it is the toughest fabric available.
It has always been Tuffies mission to avoid cheap polyesters with PVC coating. Polyesters don’t last and there is a real issue with PVC as the plasicisers leach into the dog’s coat making the PVC brittle and leaking.

The Mattress:

Inside any Tuffie dog bed is an orthopaedic mattress. A hollow fibre futon mattress is created in-house in order to ensure that it is firm and supportive to any dog. Dogs spend a vast amount of time on their beds and it has to be top quality. Crucial to dog beds is that the stuffing is NOT loose because this results in all the stuffing migrating out to the sides with nothing in the middle where the dog sleeps.
Tuffies have experimented with memory foam in the past, but there is some doubt about the healthiness of the gases that come off memory foam. To avoid any chemicals Tuffies will never use memory foam.

The Solution to Chewing Dogs:

Around 20 years ago Tuffies launched the Really Tough Tuffie, which is a money-back guaranteed chew proof dog bed. It has a soft, supporting inner for the dog, but by its design, a chewing dog cannot get hold of the soft fabric. A real solution to the many dogs that endanger themselves by ingesting fabrics.
