‘All Creatures Great and Small’ offers a fresh and dynamic take on the 1978 original series.
The six- episode series follows a young Veterinary Graduate, James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph) who in 1937 travels from Glasgow to the idyllic Yorkshire Dales to join a Veterinary practice at Skeldale House. It is here that he works alongside Veterinary Surgeon, Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and his younger brother Tistan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse). Throughout the series we see James Herriot adapting to rural life, treating various animals whilst having to deal with an array of different owners. The series offers a range of other notable characters including the Housekeeper, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) and possible love interest Helen Alderson (Rachel Shenton).
Overall, the light-hearted series makes for a lovely watch and is perfect for those cold, dark nights where you are looking for something good to watch. Due to the success of the programme there is already talk of a second series.
All Creatures Great and Small DVD was released on the 23 November 2020 for £24.99 RRP.
